Member Update – National Day of Mourning 22 September 22

National Day of Mourning 22 September 22

AHEIA welcomes the Prime Minister’s announcement of a National Day of Mourning on 22 September following the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Our member universities will observe the Day of Mourning, including by suspending normal operations as part of the declared public holiday. We expect that universities will take the normal approach to employee entitlements on public holidays.

For those member institutions who are considering making payments to their casual employees, the recommended approach is:

  1. Only casual employees with regular rostered work to be performed on the day should be considered for payment, and;
  2. Payment should only be made if the work is unable to be rescheduled to another day.

Please feel free to contact Peter Raymond if you have further queries in relation to the Day of Mourning.
