As the employer association for the higher education sector, representing the industrial interests of Australian Universities, the Australian Higher Education Industrial Association (AHEIA) welcomes the Albanese Government’s announcement of the Jobs and Skills Summit on the 1st and 2nd of September. As a major employer in the Australian economy, the sector has a vital interest in the stated objectives of the Summit.
Any mechanism to help address the critical skills shortages currently being experienced in the Australian economy is welcomed. The education sector is a significant contributor to the Australian economy and is well placed to provide training to upskill workers to help alleviate current labour market pressures. The University sector has an important part to play post summit and AHEIA is committed to working with the Albanese Government and other key stakeholders in helping to overcome the current challenges.
